Book Release Programme
200 years passed since Ramchandra Bidyabagish, a scholar and the first Minister of Brahmo Samaj wrote “Bangabhasabidhan” a Bengali dictionary. To commemorate this occasion Sadharan Brahmo Samaj organized a Book release programme on 5th May at 6 pm in the Samaj prayer hall. Bangla Abhidhaner Dusho Bachar-O-Tathhopunji (1817-2017) written by Asitabha Das and Pradosh Kumar Mitra, published by Patralekha was unveiled by eminent educationist Prof. Pabitra Sarkar. He explained the Importance of dictionary and suggested Calcutta University should take initiative to publish a comprehensive Bengali dictionary like Oxford University. Prof. Dr. Goutam Neogi presided over this programme. Prof. Dr.Satrajit Goswami, Head of Bengali Dept. Rishi Bankim College also spoke on this occasion.
Special Programme on the occasion of Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore
On 12th May at Sadharan Brahmo Samaj prayer hall a musical programme was organised to celebrate 157th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The programme started at 6.30 pm with a brief prayer offered by Smt. Jayashree Bhattacharya. Musical programme was also conducted by Smt. Jayashree Bhattacharya and her group.
Jaisthautsava Celebration at Sadharan Brahmo Samaj
140th Foundation Day of Sadharan Brahmo Samaj was celebrated on 17th May, 2018 (2nd Jaistha 1425) Samaj prayer hall was illuminated with LED lights. Programme was started with Kirtan conducted by Supratim Chakrabarty. Devine service was conducted by Acharya Tapabrata Brahmachari. He narrated brief history how Sadharan Brahmo Samaj was founded and also spoke on Brahmo Dharma and its importance in life. Hymns were sung by Subrata Pal, Elora Chakraborty, Shankar Prasad Mitra, Sucharita Bhattacharjee, Sudeshna Roy Chowdhury, Krishna Majumdar, Kakali Bhattacharjee, Uma Bhowmick and Basanti Mallick and conducted by Supratim Chakrabarty. Bireswar Bhowmick performed with Khol and Tabla.
On 17th May, 2018 (3rd Jaistha, 1425) at 6.30 pm, on the occasion of Maharshi Debendranath Tagore’s 201st birth anniversary, a special musical programme named “Tameba Pita Sakha Tameba” was organised. The programme started after a brief prayer. Maharshi Debendranath Tagore’s Brahmosangeet were sung by Kaushik De. Debjani Mukhopadhyay performed solo hymns and the members of “Anandaagaan” sang songs conducted by Subrata Pal.
246th Birthday celebration of Raja Rammohun Roy
Sadharan Brahmo Samaj observed Raja Rammohun Roy’s 246th Birth anniversary on 22nd May this year near his statue at Calcutta Maidan in association of Govt. of West Bengal and Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Floral tribute offered by students of Montessori section of Brahmo Balika Shikshalaya followed by Sadharan Brahmo Samaj and its institutions, Bharatbarsio Brahmo Mandir, Brahmo Sammilan Samaj and Harinavi Brahmo Samaj. Prayer devoutly offered by Amit Das and he also talked about the activity of Rammohun Roy. Montessori section of Brahmo Balika Shikshalaya sang the hymns.
Annual Utsava of Baniban Brahmo Samaj
Annual Utsava on the occasion of Foundation day of Baniban Brahmo Samaj was observed on 27th May at Baniban with the initiative of Sadharan Brahmo Samaj and local Brahmo families at Baniban. Programme began with Kirtan by Sri Suman Majumdar. Devine service was conducted by Sri Debasis Das and hymns were sung by Smt. Rita Chakrabarty, Smt. Mousumi Chatterjee, Smt. Indrani Roy, Smt. Khuku Roy, Smt. Tamali Bose, Smt. Maya Bose and others under direction of Sri Suman Majumdar. About 50 people include 20 people from Kolkata attended this occasion. All participants joined Pritibhojan at noon.
188th Maghotsava celebration at Bangladesh Brahmo Samaj, Dhaka
Bangladesh Brahmo Samaj celebrated 188th Maghotsava during 6th to 11th Magh, 1424.
6th Magh – Opening of 188th Maghotsava at 4 pm: Acharya Sabuj Kumar Pal inaugurated the programme with a short prayer after that a lecture meeting was arranged. The topic of the lecture meeting was “Unishsotoke purbabonge Brahmo andolon”. Director of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan was presided over the meeting. Speakers were Bangabandhu professor of Dhaka University Prof. Muntasir Mamun, writer and researcher Mamun Siddique, poet and writer Piyus Mazid, journalist Khandakar Maniruzzaman (Editor in-charge, Dainik Sambad), first officer (Railway) of Indian high-commission Sri Dibyanjan Roy and proprietor of Ananya publication, Manirun Haque. Welcome note was delivered by the general secretary of Bangladesh Brahmo Samaj Sri Ranabir Pal. The book titled “Unishsotoke purbabonge Brahmoandolon” was formally released after the lecture meeting. After that, tribute paid to Mahrashi Debendranath Tagore on the occasion of his 112th death anniversary with special service and reading from his biography.
On 7th Magh, Special service was conducted to show respect to Raja Rammohun Roy.
On 8th Magh special memorial service was conducted for the Brahmo missionaries.
On 9th Magh in the evening Balak Balika Sanmelan was arranged. Children from Bangladesh Brahmo Samaj and Hindu orphanage were participated in this childrens’ programme. After the programme, chief guest Ed. Kazi Nazibullah Hiru, member of central committee of Bangladesh Awami League, distributed the prizes.
On 10th Magh at 6 pm a programme named “Mrityu o-Mrityukoredaan” on Brahmosangeet and its explanation was organised. Brahmo Sangeet sung by members of “Biswabina” conducted by Ustad Khandakar Kharuzzaman Kaium and illustrated by Sri Sabuj Kumar Pal.
On 11th Magh, the Bangladesh Brahmo samaj was decorated with flower and light. After flag hoisting and inaugural song “Ajisubha dine pitarbhabane amrita sadane cholo jai”, the Samaj mandir was opened. Service was conducted by Sri Sabuj Kumar Pal, eleven hymns were sung during the service. Various well known persons like Alhaz Md. Syed Khokan (Mayor, South Dhaka City Corporation), commissioners Sri Ranjan Biswas and Md. Niyaji were present during the service, all arrangements were organised by Sri Debasish Biswas, Sri Bakul Chandra Roy, Major (Retd.) Shyamalendu Kabiraj, Sri Ardhendu Bikash Chakraborty, Sri Susanta Kumar Chanda, Sri Arindam Chakraborty and Sri Pradip Kumar Pal. Around 1500 participants from various religions like Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Brahmo took lunch after the service. In the evening after “Shantibachon”, 188th Maghotsava celebration at Bangladesh Brahmo Samaj, Dhaka finally concluded.
“Rabindra Janmotsab” at Bhawanipur Brahmo Samaj (Padmapukur)
Bhawanipur Brahmo Samaj (Padmapukur) organised a programme to observe 157th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Saturday, 26th May, 2018 at 6.30 pm. The programme started with a short prayer offered by Smt. Sujata Banerjee. A musical programme composed with a bunch of melodious songs were sung by a group of singers and conducted by Sri Supratim Chakraborty. The singers were Sri Supratim Chakraborty, Smt. Subrata Pal, Smt. Atashi Nath, Smt. Sudeshna Roychoudhuri, Sri Nilimesh Roy, Smt. Sucharita Bhattacharya, Smt. Manisha Bagchi, Sri Subrata Baruli, Smt. Kakali Bhattacharya, Smt. Uma Bhowmick, Smt. Khuku Roy and Smt. Anita Basu. Sri Bireswar Bhowmick assisted with “table” and “khol”. A good number of people attended the programme. Light refreshment served to all attendees in the end.
‘Jatakarma’ of Suvasmoyee, 2nd daughter of Sri Sumit Hajra and Smt. Smita Hajra and Granddaughter of Late Dr. Sunil Kumar Hajra and Late Bina Hajra was celebrated on 25th February, 2018. Sri Salil Kumar Hajra conducted the prayer.
