Editorial – September 2021

The monsoon season is coming to an end. However, it is taking an increasingly devastating role due to the havoc that our insatiable desire to take control of this world has wrecked on our environment. The aggressive march of human civilisation has disturbed the fine balance of nature and the universe. And yet we do not stop in our efforts to harness natural forces to serve us and tap unrelentingly into the natural resources. In this grim picture, a ray of light is thrown by the uncompromising protest of the younger generations for whom we have left very little to have a healthy existence. The past two years have thrown our lives out of gear, changing the way we think. Perhaps it will give us an opportunity to pause and rethink about our lifestyle and the actions we take. Let us hope that the crystal clear, azure autumn sky makes our thoughts and actions clear enough to make the world a better place for our posterity.

This month we bring out the last and final article that guides us to lead a better life and reform ourselves as per the ideals that our forefathers lived by. We also get the final insight into the philosophy of Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi, whom Tagore had called Mahatma, the Great Soul. We fondly remember Dr. Gautam Neogy, an authority on Raja Rammohun Roy and a member of Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, who has breathed his last untimely a few months ago. However, he has left behind his legacy of unparalleled scholarship. We are also presenting the last part of his article on Sadharan Brahmo Samaj library.
